(Reuters) - Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico suffered life-threatening injuries when he was shot and wounded in an attempted assassination on Wednesday, the government office said.

Moldova's justice ministry seeks temporary ban on pro-Russian party activities May 15, 2024 11:18AM

CHISINAU (Reuters) - The Moldovan Justice Ministry asked a Chisinau court to place restrictions on political activities by the pro-Russian Chance party for six months on Wednesday.

The ministry said the decision was taken after an audit of the party revealed that the Chance leadership failed to comply with the Central Election Commission's requirements and did not provide complete data on its activities.

Italian judge throws out defamation case brought by Meloni ally May 15, 2024 11:16AM

ROME (Reuters) - A Rome university professor was acquitted on Wednesday of slandering Agriculture Minister Francesco Lollobrigida for comparing him to a Nazi governor.

A judge kicked out the case against Donatella Di Cesare, a professor of philosophy at the Sapienza University in Rome, saying "the fact does not constitute a crime".

US imposes visa restrictions, other penalties on Nicaraguan government May 15, 2024 11:16AM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States on Wednesday imposed visa restrictions on more than 250 members of the Nicaraguan government and levied sanctions on three Nicaraguan entities in retaliation for "repressive actions" by Managua related to migrant smuggling.

UK court system 'crooked', says WikiLeaks editor ahead of crucial Assange hearing May 15, 2024 11:11AM

LONDON (Reuters) - The editor of WikiLeaks denounced the British judicial system as crooked on Wednesday, days before a crucial court hearing which could end the legal battle by the organisation's founder Julian Assange to stop extradition to the United States.
