Philippines' Marcos to meet Trump hoping to secure trade deal Jul 21, 2025 12:08AM

WASHINGTON/MANILA (Reuters) -Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. meets U.S. President Donald Trump this week, hoping Manila's status as a key Asian ally will secure a more favorable trade deal before an August 1 deadline.

Japan PM vows to stay on after bruising election defeat Jul 21, 2025 12:00AM

TOKYO (Reuters) -Japanese premier Shigeru Ishiba vowed to stay on after his ruling coalition suffered a bruising defeat in upper house elections on Sunday as some of his own party discussed his future and the opposition weighed a no-confidence motion.

South Korea industry minister says US tariff talks in critical phase Jul 20, 2025 11:34PM

SEOUL (Reuters) -South Korea's new industry minister Kim Jung-kwan said on Monday that tariff talks with the U.S. are in a critical phase that could result in all kinds of possible scenarios, according to the ministry.

Kim pledged an all-out effort to smoothly wrap up the talks as August 1, the date when the U.S. has said its "reciprocal" tariffs will take effect, approaches, the ministry said.

Vietnamese coastal provinces on emergency footing as Typhoon Wipha nears Jul 20, 2025 11:25PM

HANOI (Reuters) -Vietnam's Prime Minister put coastal provinces on emergency footing for Typhoon Wipha, saying it could cause flooding and landslides, as airlines cancelled flights ahead of the storm's expected landfall early on Tuesday. 

Wipha is expected to complicate the search for people still missing after a tourist boat capsized during a thunderstorm in Halong Bay in northern Vietnam on Saturday, killing more than 30 people.

RBNZ Q2 sectoral factor inflation model at 2.8% y/y Jul 20, 2025 11:11PM

SYDNEY (Reuters) -The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) said on Monday its sectoral factor model of core inflation was 2.8% year-on-year in the second quarter, down from 2.9% in the prior quarter.

The country's official statistics agency earlier in the day released figures that showed annual inflation came in at 2.7% in the second quarter, its highest in a year, leading markets to narrow the odds on a rate cut next month given weakness in the broader... (continue reading...)
