Sept 24 (Reuters) - ‌Bank of ​America ​said on Thursday it plans to hire 1,000 ‌additional apprentices over the next ⁠two years, expanding its skills-based hiring ‌in local communities.

• The ‌commitment is on top of the more than 800 apprentices ​the company already hires each year through programs across ⁠its consumer banking, technology and other business ​areas.

• The additional hires will target workers without a four-year ​college degree.

• As ‌part of the initiative, Bank of America will ⁠invest $150 million over five years in workforce development organizations that help ⁠individuals gain job-ready skills and connect with ​employment opportunities, the company said.

• The bank also said the funding would ‌support local organizations, universities, community colleges and nonprofit groups ‌focused on workforce training.
