Australian job vacancies fall 2.1% in May quarter

SYDNEY, June 25 (Reuters) - Job vacancies in Australia fell in the May quarter for the first decline since the middle of 2025, data showed on Thursday, with the largest drops in the finance, accommodation and food sectors.
Figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) showed vacancies fell 2.1% in the three months to May, following a revised 2.4% gain in the previous quarter. That also left vacancies down 2.1% on a year earlier at 329,500.
Vacancies in the private sector fell 1.4%, while those in the public sector dropped 7.9%, with losses across most of the sectors surveyed.
The largest fall of 21.4% was in the financial and insurance services industry, while accommodation and food services dropped 16.1%.
