Australian job vacancies fall 2.1% in May quarter

SYDNEY, June ‌25 (Reuters) - Job ​vacancies ​in Australia fell in the May quarter ‌for the first decline since ⁠the middle of 2025, data ‌showed on Thursday, ‌with the largest drops in the finance, accommodation and ​food sectors.

Figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) showed ⁠vacancies fell 2.1% in the three ​months to May, following a revised 2.4% gain in ​the previous quarter. ‌That also left vacancies down 2.1% on a ⁠year earlier at 329,500.

Vacancies in the private sector fell ⁠1.4%, while those in the public ​sector dropped 7.9%, with losses across most of the sectors surveyed.

The largest ‌fall of 21.4% was in the financial and ‌insurance services industry, while ⁠accommodation and ‌food services ​dropped 16.1%.
