(Reuters) - Australian telecom firm Telstra said on Tuesday it would reduce up to 2,800 jobs from its direct workforce by the end of this year, as a part of its proposed measures to simplify operations and improve productivity.
Consultation on 377 of those roles would begin immediately, mainly from areas supporting the products and services to be exited in its enterprise business, Telstra said.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden strongly defended Israel on Monday, saying Israeli forces are not committing genocide in their military campaign against Hamas militants in Gaza in a rejection of criticism from pro-Palestinian protesters.
"What's happening in Gaza is not genocide. We reject that," Biden said at a Jewish American Heritage Month event at the White House.

(Reuters) - Dominican President Luis Abinader, a day after being re-elected for a second term , said on Monday that he will sit down with opposition leaders to discuss a potential fiscal reform.
Abinader said the reform would include tweaks to taxation as well as public spending.
The overhaul would include "significantly improving our educational system, healthcare, (and) a police reform," Abinader said at a press conference.
