Tesla to lay off an additional 601 employees in California - government notice May 14, 2024 07:45PM

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Tesla plans to lay off an additional 601 employees in California, according to its notice to government agencies on Monday.

The electric carmaker said last month it will lay off 6,020 people in California and Texas, as part of its global job cuts announced by CEO Elon Musk.

El Salvador mined nearly 474 bitcoins, adding to state crypto holding, in last three years May 14, 2024 07:21PM

SAN SALVADOR (Reuters) - El Salvador has mined nearly 474 bitcoins since 2021 thanks to a volcano-fueled geothermal power plant, official data showed on Tuesday, bringing the government's total bitcoin portfolio to nearly $354 million at current prices.

The country's "Bitcoin Office," an official government entity, reports that government coffers now hold 5,750 bitcoins.

NYCB to sell nearly $5 billion of mortgage warehouse loans to JPMorgan May 14, 2024 07:19PM

(Reuters) - Embattled regional lender New York Community Bancorp said on Tuesday it has agreed to sell about $5 billion in mortgage warehouse loans to JPMorgan Chase.

The deal bolsters NYCB's liquidity and capital as it executes a crucial turnaround to return to profitability over the next two years.

OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever departs May 14, 2024 07:17PM

(Reuters) -OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever said on Tuesday he is leaving the ChatGPT maker.

"After almost a decade, I have made the decision to leave OpenAI," he said in a post on X.

Sam Altman, CEO of the Microsoft-backed company said Jakub Pachocki will be the company's new chief scientist.

Pachocki has previously served as OpenAI's director of research and led the development of GPT-4 and OpenAI Five.

US State Dept moves $1 billion weapons aid for Israel to congressional review, official says May 14, 2024 07:16PM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. State Department has moved a $1 billion package of weapons aid for Israel into the congressional review process, two U.S. officials said on Tuesday.

The latest weapons package includes tank rounds, mortars and armored tactical vehicles, one of the officials told Reuters.
