TAIPEI (Reuters) -Taiwan's exports rose more than expected in April as customers stockpiled the island's high-tech products before any U.S. tariffs take effect, which could drive first-half exports to a new high.

HONG KONG (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump has said he would raise the case of jailed Hong Kong activist and former media tycoon Jimmy Lai as "part of the negotiation" with China over trade and tariffs, a move that could further stoke tensions with Beijing.
"I think talking about Jimmy Lai is a very good idea," Trump told radio host Hugh Hewitt on Wednesday. "We'll put it down, and we'll put it down as part of the negotiation."

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -U.S. container imports surged in April as companies raced to avoid President Donald Trump's tariffs, which now include a 145% duty on goods from China, but executives at the country's two busiest ports said the trend looked set to reverse in May.
