Walgreens (WAG) Reports Increase in July Same-Store Sales

Walgreens (NYSE: WAG) reports July sales of $4,417,400,000, an increase of 11.0% from $3,979,512,000 for the same month in 2006. Sales in comparable stores (those open at least a year) rose 7.2%.

July pharmacy sales increased 11.7%, while comparable pharmacy sales increased 8.2%. Comparable pharmacy sales were negatively impacted by 4.5% due to generic drug introductions in the last 12 months.

Total prescriptions filled at comparable stores increased 5.6%. Pharmacy sales accounted for 66.1% of total sales for the month.

Comparable store front-end sales increased 5.5% during July.

Calendar year-to-date sales were $31,318,716,000, an increase of 12.3% from $27,883,980,000 in 2006.
