Walgreen (WAG) Reports Increase in April Sales
Walgreen Co. (NYSE: WAG) had April sales of $4,500,370,000, an increase of 14.1% from $3,943,231,000 for the same month in 2006. Sales in comparable stores (those open at least a year) rose 9.2%. This year's earlier Easter (April 8 this year versus April 16 last year) didn't affect April sales results.
April pharmacy sales increased 16.0%, while comparable pharmacy sales increased 11.2%. Total prescriptions filled at comparable stores increased 7.3%. Pharmacy sales accounted for 65.1% of total sales for the month.
Comparable store front-end sales increased 5.6% during April.
