Target (TGT) Comps Up 5.3% in Sept.

Target (NYSE: TGT) reports total sales for the month of September were $5.923 billion, up 6.5 percent from the same period last year. Same-store sales rose 5.3 percent.

Chairman, President and CEO of Target Gregg Steinhafel said, "We’re very pleased with our September comparable-store sales, which were somewhat ahead of our expectations. We experienced strong sales results throughout the month and across a broad array of merchandise categories, demonstrating Target’s ability to deliver on both sides of our “Expect More. Pay Less” brand promise and generate strong financial performance even in this soft economic environment.

On a quarter-to-date basis, sales are up 6 percent while same store sales are up 4.7 percent.
