TJX Companies (TJX) Reports December Same-Store Sales Increase

The TJX Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TJX) reported December 2006 sales results. Sales for the five-week period ended December 30, 2006, were $2.5 billion, up 10% over the $2.3 billion achieved during the five-week period ended December 31, 2005. Consolidated comparable store sales for the five-week period ended December 30, 2006, increased 6% over last year.

Ben Cammarata, Chairman and Acting Chief Executive Officer of The TJX Companies, Inc., stated, "I am pleased that our consolidated December comparable store sales gain of 6% was ahead of our expectations and achieved on top of a very strong comp sales increase last year. We believe our gift-giving initiatives and increased marketing helped to drive traffic and sales for the month."
