Stein Mart (Nasdaq: SMRT) reported total sales for the five-week period ended October 4, 2014 of $119.4 million, a 6.5 percent increase over total sales of $112.2 million for the five-week period ended October 5, 2013. Comparable store sales for the five-week period ended October 4, 2014 increased 4.9 percent from comparable store sales for the five-week period ended October 5, 2013.
Total sales of $832.9 million for the thirty-five week period ended October 4, 2014 increased 3.1 percent from total sales of $807.8 million for the thirty-five week period ended October 5, 2013. Comparable store sales for the thirty-five week period ended October 4, 2014 increased 2.4 percent from comparable store sales for the thirty-five week period ended October 5, 2013.
Geographically, Texas and the Carolinas had the strongest sales in September, while California, Arizona and the Northeast performed lower than the chain. The Company operated 268 stores at the end of September this year compared to 263 stores last year. Three new stores were opened during the month in Citrus Heights, CA; Clovis, CA and Gainesville, VA and three stores were relocated to improved sites in Las Vegas, NV; Mobile, AL and Rocklin, CA.
