Southwest Airlines (LUV) Reports Increase in March Traffic

Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) announced that the Company flew 6.7 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in March 2008, a 9.8% increase from the 6.1 billion RPMs flown in March 2007.

Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 5.3% to 8.7 billion from the March 2007 level of 8.3 billion. The load factor for the month was 76.5%, compared to 73.3% for the same period last year.
For first quarter 2008, Southwest flew 17.6 billion RPMs, compared to the 16.1 billion RPMs recorded for the same period in 2007, an increase of 9.2%. Available seat miles increased 6.4% to 25.2 billion from the 2007 level of 23.7 billion. The first quarter 2008 load factor was 69.8%, compared to 68.0% for the same period last year.
