Southwest Airlines (LUV) Reports Increase in August Traffic

Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) announced that the Company flew 7.0 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in August 2007, a 12.1% increase from the 6.2 billion RPMs flown in August 2006. Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 8.1% to 8.7 billion from the August 2006 level of 8.1 billion. The load factor for the month was 80.0%, compared to 77.1% for the same period last year.
For the eight months ended August 31, 2007, Southwest flew 49.2 billion RPMs, compared to the 45.7 billion RPMs recorded for the same period of 2006, an increase of 7.6%. Available seat miles increased 8.3% to 66.1 billion from the 2006 level of 61.0 billion. The year-to-date load factor was 74.4%, compared to 74.9% for the same period last year.
