Rite Aid (RAD) Same Store Sales Down 0.2% in December

Rite Aid Corporation (NYSE: RAD) today announced sales for December fell 2.1% to $2.155 billion, with same stores sales coming at at down 0.2% compared to the same period last year.

Front-end same store sales decreased 2.4% while pharmacy same store sales, which included an approximate 301 basis point negative impact from new generic introductions, were up 1.2%.

For the four weeks ended December 27, 2008, same store sales excluding the acquired Brooks Eckerd stores increased 0.5% over the prior-year period with front-end same store sales decreasing 2.7% and pharmacy same store sales increasing 2.9%.

Rite Aid Corporation, through its subsidiaries, operates a chain of retail drugstores.
