New York Times (NYT) Reports Decline in September Revenues

The New York Times Company (NYSE: NYT) announced that in September total Company revenues from continuing operations decreased 8.0% compared with the same month a year ago. Advertising revenues decreased 13.0% and circulation revenues increased 3.0%.

Advertising revenues for the News Media Group decreased 14.1% because of weakness in print advertising. (Effective August 18, the daily newsstand price of The Times increased from $1.25 to $1.50)

Advertising revenues at the About Group (which includes the Web sites of About.com, ConsumerSearch.com, UCompareHealthCare.com and Calorie-Count.com) rose 10.9% due to growth in both cost-per-click and display advertising.

Total Internet revenues grew 11.7% and Internet advertising revenues increased 14.5% in September.

The New York Times Company is a diversified media company, including newspapers, Internet businesses, television and radio stations, and investments in paper mills and other investments. [SM]
