LAN Airlines S.A. (NYSE: LFL) reported its preliminary monthly traffic statistics and punctuality indicators for August 2011.
During August, system passenger traffic increased 14.1% as capacity rose 12.7%. As a result, the Company’s load factor for the month increased 0.9 points to 78.7%. International passenger traffic accounted for approximately 67.9% of total passenger traffic. Starting in January 2011, these figures include AIRES’ domestic and international operations.
Domestic passenger traffic in Chile, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia rose 21.8% as capacity increased 19.8%. As a consequence, the domestic passenger load factor in August increased 1.3 points to 78.1%. International passenger traffic grew 10.7%, while capacity increased 9.6%. Accordingly, the international passenger load factor for the month increased 0.8 points to 79.0%.
During August, cargo traffic rose 9.9% as capacity increased 11.0%. As a consequence, the cargo load factor decreased 0.7 points to 67.8%.
