General Motors (GM) Reports Increase in Total August Sales

General Motors (NYSE: GM) dealers in the United States delivered 388,168 vehicles in August, up more than 5% compared with year-ago monthly sales, a strong performance that resulted in an anticipated highest- of-the-year market share of nearly 26%. Brisk sales of full-size pickups and crossover SUVs led the increase. (Street consensus was 4.3% decline)
Overall incentive spending was flat compared with a year ago. August inventories were down about 34,000 vehicles to approximately 945,000 vehicles.
August car total sales were down 7.8%, truck total sales were up 14.9%, light truck sales were up 16.5% and light vehicle total sales for August were up 6.1%.
Buick (-15.4%), Cadillac (-2.8%), Chevrolet (+8.6%), GMC (+21.2%), Hummer (-15.4%), Pontiac (-1.0%), Saab (-5.0%) and Saturn (-4.2%) for the month of August compared to August 2006.
