Fred's (FRED) March Same-Store Sales Increased 1.0%

Fred's, Inc. (NASDAQ: FRED) reported higher sales for the five-week fiscal month of March that ended April 1, 2006. Fred's total sales for the month increased 8% to $157.6 million from $146.5 million in March last year.
Comparable store sales for the month increased 1.0% on top of the 3.5% gain Fred's posted in the same period last year.
Fred's total sales for the year-to-date period increased 8% to $291.0 million compared with $270.6 million for the same two months last year.
