Fred's (FRED) Comps Up 2.7% in July

Fred's Inc. (Nasda: FRED) today reported sales for the four-week fiscal month, second quarter and six-month period ended July 31, 2010.
Fred's total sales for the month increased 4% to $129.0 million from $124.6 million in July 2009. Comparable store sales for the month increased 2.7% versus a decrease of 4.6% in the same period last year.
Total sales for the second quarter rose 4% to $449.4 million from $434.2 million in the year-earlier period. Comparable store sales for the quarter increased 2.5% compared with a decrease of 1.3% in the second quarter of 2009.
Fred's total sales for the first six months of fiscal 2010 increased 3% to $921.1 million compared with $892.6 million for the same period last year. On a comparable store basis, year-to-date sales increased 2.4% on top of an increase of 0.8% in the same period last year.
