Family Dollar (FDO) Reports December Sales; Issues Guidance

Family Dollar Stores (NYSE: FDO) reported that net sales for the five weeks ended January 5, 2008, increased 2.5% to $816.6 million compared with $796.7 million for the comparable five-week period ended January 6, 2007. Total sales for the five-week period were strongest in the consumables category, primarily food. Comparable store sales decreased 0.7%. The Company had 6,473 stores as of January 5, 2008, including 16 new stores opened in the December period.

January Sales Outlook
Family Dollar currently anticipates that comparable store sales results for the January period ending February 2, 2008, will be approximately flat.
