DRI Reports March Same-Restaurant Sales Results

Darden Restaurants, Inc. (NYSE: DRI) reported U.S. same-restaurant sales results for the five- week March fiscal month ended April 3, 2005. This period is the first month of Darden's fiscal 2005 fourth quarter.
Same-restaurant sales at Olive Garden were up 9% to 10% for fiscal March, which reflected a 7% to 8% increase in guest counts and a 2% increase in check average due to pricing. Last year, Olive Garden had a 7% to 8% increase in same-restaurant sales.
Same-restaurant sales at Red Lobster were up 3% to 4% for fiscal March, which reflected a 0% to 1% increase in guest counts and a 3% increase in the check average. The check average increase was a result of a 1% increase in pricing and a 2% increase from menu mix changes. Last year, Red Lobster had a 6% decrease in same-restaurant sales.
