Chico's FAS (CHS) Reports August Same-Store-Sales Down 10%

Chico's FAS (NYSE: CHS) reported that its net sales for the four-week period ended August 30, 2008, decreased 2.2% to $116.2 million from $118.8 million reported for the four-week period ended September 1, 2007. Comparable store sales decreased 10.0% for the four-week period ended August 30, 2008 compared to the same four-week period last year ended September 1, 2007.
For the thirty weeks ended August 30, 2008 net sales decreased 7.6% to $931.0 million from $1.008 billion reported for the thirty week period ended September 1, 2007. Comparable store sales decreased 15.9% for the thirty week period ended August 30, 2008 compared to the thirty week period last year ended September 1, 2007.
Chico's FAS is a specialty retailer of private branded, sophisticated, casual-to-dressy clothing, intimates, complementary accessories, and other non-clothing gift items.
