Cato (CATO) Comps Fell 2% in May

Cato Corp. (NYSE: CATO) reported sales of $81.7 million for the four weeks ended June 1, 2013, a 3% decrease versus sales of $84.3 million for the four weeks ended May 26, 2012. Same-store sales for the month decreased 2%.
Sales for the seventeen weeks ended June 1, 2013 were $348.9 million, a 2% decrease versus sales of $357.1 million for the seventeen weeks ended May 26, 2012. The Company's year-to-date same-store sales decreased 4%.
"May sales continued to be difficult although better than our current trend," commented John Cato, the Company's Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer.
As of June 1, 2013, the Company operated 1,307 stores in 31 states, compared to 1,294 stores in 31 states as of May 26, 2012.
