Buckle (BKE) January Comps Fell 2%

Buckle, Inc. (NYSE: BKE) reports that comparable store net sales, for stores open at least one year, for the five-week period ended February 2, 2013 decreased 2.0 percent from comparable store net sales for the five-week period ended February 4, 2012. Net sales for the five-week fiscal month ended February 2, 2013 increased 30.7 percent to $78.8 million from net sales of $60.3 million for the prior year four-week fiscal month ended January 28, 2012.

January 2013 was a 5-week fiscal period, ending The Buckle, Inc.’s 53-week fiscal year. The prior January was a 4-week fiscal period, ending a 52-week fiscal year. Comparable store net sales for the month, quarter and year-to-date periods are compared to the 5-week, 14-week and 53-week periods ended February 4, 2012.

Comparable store net sales for the 14-week fourth quarter ended February 2, 2013 were flat in comparison to comparable store net sales for the 14-week period ended February 4, 2012. Net sales for the 14-week fiscal fourth quarter ended February 2, 2013 increased 7.0 percent to $360.6 million compared to net sales of $337.1 million for the prior year 13-week fiscal fourth quarter ended January 28, 2012.

Comparable store net sales year-to-date for the 53-week period ended February 2, 2013 increased 2.1 percent from comparable store net sales for the 53-week period ended February 4, 2012. Net sales for the 53-week fiscal year ended February 2, 2013 increased 5.7 percent to $1.124 billion from net sales of $1.063 billion for the prior year 52-week fiscal year ended January 28, 2012.
