BLI Announces December Same-Store Sales Up 2.3%

Big Lots (NYSE: BLI) reported retail sales for the five weeks ended December 31, 2005 of $708.1 million, a 6.1% increase compared to retail sales of $667.5 million for the same period in fiscal 2004. Comparable store sales for all stores open at least two years as of the beginning of the fiscal year increased 2.3% in December, with the value of the average basket increasing 5.9% and the number of customer transactions decreasing 3.6%.
