Alaska Air Group (ALK) Reports Increase in March Traffic

Alaska Air Group, Inc. (NYSE: ALK) reported March passenger traffic for its subsidiaries, Alaska Airlines (Alaska) and Horizon Air (Horizon).
Alaska's March traffic increased 10.7% to 1.696 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) from 1.532 billion flown a year earlier. Capacity during March was 2.099 billion available seat miles (ASMs), 5.2% higher than the 1.995 billion in March 2007.
The passenger load factor (the percentage of available seats occupied by fare-paying passengers) for the month was 80.8%, compared to 76.8% in March 2007. The airline carried 1,537,000 passengers, compared to 1,448,200 in March 2007.
Horizon's March traffic increased 3.5% to 241.5 million RPMs from 233.4 million flown a year earlier. Capacity during March was 327.3 million ASMs, 0.5% lower than the 329.0 million in March 2007.
The passenger load factor for the month was 73.8%, compared to 70.9% in March 2007. The airline carried 659,500 passengers, compared to 594,100 in March 2007. [SM]
