ZOE Launches Gut Health Bar Designed by World-Leading Scientists
The gut health science company is bringing science-backed nutrition to everyday snacking with delicious new bars packed with over 10 plants, 8g of fiber and 7g of plant protein per bar
Research from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey shows that 95% of the US population consumes snacks regularly, with around two snacks per day accounting for 24% of daily calorie intake. Despite how frequently Americans snack, many products marketed as "healthy" or "high in protein" are ultra-processed, low in fiber, and contain added sugars, additives, and emulsifiers.
Unlike many conventional snack bars, the ZOE Gut Health Bar is made with carefully selected, natural ingredients, with its nutritional benefits coming from the diverse range of whole plants it contains.
"The US is undeniably a nation of snackers, but for too long, the snacking food category has optimized for convenience over nutritional quality and gut health," says Professor
Built on years of carrying out the world's largest nutrition study, ZOE's scientists hand-selected more than 10 plants for the bar, including almonds, cashews, edamame, red lentils, flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds, seaweed, and kombucha. Many of their natural structures have been kept intact so they can travel further down the digestive tract to feed gut microbes and help maintain feelings of fullness.
The Gut Health Bar has been designed to be eaten more slowly by preserving the food matrix. ZOE research from the PREDICT studies show that fast eaters consume an average of 120 more calories per day than slow eaters, and simply reducing eating speed by around 20% can lead to a reduction in energy intake of around 15%.
With more than 10 plants in every bar, the launch also builds on ZOE's core message of aiming to eat 30 different plants a week, making it easier for people to incorporate greater plant diversity into their everyday diets.
ZOE also carefully sourced a 70% dark chocolate that met its ingredient standards, without the emulsifiers commonly found in chocolate used in snack bars. The result is a delicious, high-cocoa chocolate that delivers on both flavor and quality, helping set the Gut Health Bar apart from conventional snack bars.
The launch coincides with a new survey of 1,000 US adults commissioned by ZOE, which found that while 45% of Americans consider themselves healthy eaters, 70% of that group do not know the recommended daily fiber intake. Sixty-four percent have felt misled by marketing claims on food packaging, and 69% say they would make different food choices if they had clearer guidance on which foods support their health.
"The modern food environment is stacked against us, flooded with ultra-processed snacks designed around marketing buzzwords rather than actual gut health nutrition. At ZOE, we are rewriting the rulebook," said Dr.
