The Jiu-Jitsu School Owners Benchmark Report, 2026 Edition, from Wodify. The first industry benchmark study of Jiu-Jitsu and BJJ school operations, built from survey responses across the US and Canada and nearly 800,000 class check-ins from schools running on Wodify.

Jiu-Jitsu is in the middle of a participation surge, driven by grassroots growth from entrepreneurial school owners and the rising visibility of events like the IBJJF Opens and UFC BJJ Opens. Yet school owners have had almost no reliable data to plan against. Until now, most business decisions in the industry have relied on what an owner could gather from peers, mentors, or personal experience.

The report benchmarks the numbers Jiu-Jitsu school owners care about most: revenue, student counts, lead generation and conversion, revenue per member, class attendance, payroll and rent, profitability, and owner pay. Among the findings, the median school generates roughly $19,000 a month per location; schools collect a median of $122 per student per month and keep them for 19 months, for a lifetime value of $2,318. While schools in the top 25% reach $164 in monthly revenue per student and 29 months of retention. The data also identifies a clear payroll threshold: schools spending 40% or more of revenue on payroll struggle with profitability.

“At Wodify, we're building a true all-in-one platform for modern Jiu-Jitsu schools and martial arts academies, and part of that responsibility is helping owners see their business clearly,” said Brendan Rice, CEO at Wodify. “Jiu-Jitsu school owners are operating in one of the fastest-growing areas of fitness today with almost no industry data to work from. This report changes that. We built it for every school owner in the industry, whether or not they use Wodify, because when the industry gets smarter, it raises the bar for everyone.”

The research points to significant headroom for most Jiu-Jitsu schools. 71% of surveyed owners grew their student count over the past year, and Wodify data shows the median school added 85 students. That growth matters because scale is what pays owners. The typical owner paid themselves $60,000 in 2025 before profit distributions, an effective rate of $29 an hour. Once a school passes 200 students, total take-home including profit distributions climbs past $150,000, and the effective rate passes $70 an hour.

“I own a Jiu-Jitsu school, and I talk with hundreds of school owners every year. Nearly all of them are making decisions on instinct, because until now there hasn't been any data to work from,” said Ben Timm, VP of Revenue and Customer Experience at Wodify. “You see it most clearly with lifetime value. A lot of owners have not calculated what the average student is actually worth to them or been able to benchmark it. Once they do, decisions about pricing, retention, and where to spend the next dollar get a lot easier. That's the point of this report. Data and insights that can help Jiu-Jitsu school owners improve how they run their business.”

Wodify plans to publish the report annually, with the next edition mid-2027. The full report is available for free at https://www.wodify.com/guides/the-jiu-jitsu-benchmark-report-2026.
