Wasteful Spending Rating of GOP Vice Presidential Nominee Gov. Mike Pence

July 15, 2016 11:17 AM EDT

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) today released its congressional rating of the presumptive Republican Vice Presidential nominee, Gov. Mike Pence.

Gov. Pence served in the House of Representatives from 2001-2013. During that time, he earned a lifetime CCAGW rating of 94 percent. In 2009, then-Rep. Pence was one of only seven representatives who earned a 100 percent rating, making him a Taxpayer Super Hero. When he left Congress, he was tied for the highest lifetime rating of the Indiana delegation. CCAGW’s Congressional Ratings, which have been issued annually since 1990, identify which members of Congress voted to protect taxpayers and which voted against their interests on spending and taxes.

CCAGW President Tom Schatz said, “CCAGW enjoyed working with Rep. Pence during his 12 years in Congress. He was chairman of the House Republican Study Committee from 2005-07, where he consistently crafted fiscally conservative budget proposals that were supported by CCAGW. Rep. Pence also led the House Republican Conference during the first two years of the Obama Administration and drew praise as he beat back an onslaught of perilous legislation.”

The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste is the lobbying arm of Citizens Against Government Waste, the nation’s largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government.
