No. 3: Find a reliable Realtor. Oftentimes, first-time buyers require extra detailed explanations of each step in the process. "It's imperative that you feel comfortable with your Realtor so you receive reliable answers to your important questions," stressed Potts. "Find one that has a proven track record and comes highly recommended."

No. 4: Get a second opinion. Once you have found your dream home, solicit a second opinion. "Show the house to a trusted friend or family member as they might notice something about the house that you did not," concluded Potts.
