Unit 1 reactor at Susquehanna Nuclear Plant shuts down

BERWICK, Pa., Nov. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Unit 1 at the Susquehanna nuclear power plant automatically shut down at approximately 11:32 a.m. this morning (11/12/15) based on the designed activation of the safety features that are part of the reactor's protection system.  

"Susquehanna's nuclear professionals are investigating the exact cause of the shutdown and have confirmed that all systems are responding as expected," said Jon Franke, Susquehanna site vice president. "Our operators followed established procedures and kept the unit in a safe and stable condition. We will ensure the cause of the shutdown is corrected prior to restarting Unit 1."

Unit 2 is operating safely at full power.
