Toshiba Classic PGA Champions Tour Kicks off October 26
Most philanthropic PGA Champions Tour returns to Newport Beach, CA, and expects to draw 85,000 patrons
Toshiba sponsorship enters third decade
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Toshiba America, Inc. has announced that it will be the title sponsor of the Toshiba Classic PGA Champions Tour for the 21st consecutive year. Taking place from October 26 to November 1 in Newport Beach, CA, the tournament will feature players with more than 400 world-wide professional victories and will benefit the Mary & Dick Allen Diabetes Center at Hoag Hospital.
Drawing more than 85,000 patrons, 150 sponsors and nearly 1,000 volunteers each year, the Toshiba Classic has generated the most philanthropic funding in PGA Champions Tour history, raising more than $17 million for Hoag Hospital and other local charities. The tournament, hosted at the Newport Beach Country Club, will have a $1.8 million purse with a first place prize of $270,000 and will air nationwide on the Golf Channel.
“We are proud this year to be supporting The Mary & Dick Allen Diabetes Center at Hoag Hospital,” said Mr. Fumio Otani, Chairman and CEO, Toshiba America, Inc. “The Center is well known for the range and cultural sensitivity of the services it offers to patients and those at risk, including children and woman who are pregnant. As we enter the third decade as title sponsor of this event, we are very pleased to be supporting the mission of this outstanding institution.”
This year, the Toshiba Classic will introduce the inaugural Military Appreciation Day, benefiting the One/One Foundation and the Open Hearts for Purple Hearts Foundation. All former and active military members can register to receive complimentary admission on October 31 to thank them for their service, and throughout the tournament, the 14th hole Military Appreciation Village will host several activities for patrons and their children.
This is the only official PGA Champions Tour event in Orange County, CA, and the last event before the Charles Schwab Cup Championship. Coverage on the Golf Channel will begin on Friday, October 23, and run for the remainder of the tournament. The Toshiba Classic is also televised internationally through PGA Tour television partners overseas.
