ATLANTA, Ga. (PRWEB) June 02, 2015

Professional Photographers of America (PPA) has reduced liability insurance rates for PPA photographers from $289 a year down to $236.

While other companies do offer general liability insurance, PPA's is unique in that it caters to the unique circumstances a photographer may encounter. PPA stresses the importance of liability insurance for photographers.

"General liability insurance is different than business or home owner's insurance," said Kristen Hartman, PPA director of member value and experience. Many photographers don't know this is coverage they need, but if something bad happens and the photographer is held responsible, it could be financially crippling."

To help understand the coverage, PPA has released three things you should know about its general liability insurance.
1. With PPA's coverage, photographers can save more than anywhere else because PPA negotiated a deeply discounted rate. No one can beat the power of negotiating on behalf of 28,000 photographers at once. How much is that? The annual premium starts at just $236.

2. Lockton Affinity, LLC, PPA's General Liability insurance provider, is made specifically for photographers. Certain accidents photographers may encounter are specific to photographers, so its best to find a policy that works for their business. This policy was built specifically for professional photographers.

3. When things happen and a photographer needs to make a claim, they won't even have to pay a deductible. Plus, PPA has the lowest rate around. The association did some comparison shopping for proof. The following companies offer photography-specific general liability policies. PPA Insurance Solutions: $236, Hiscox: $350, Package Choice and Tom C. Pickard & Co.: $500.

PPA's general liability policy is there for photographers in case a client or anyone is injured or if any property is damaged while on a shoot. In these instances--the photographer could be held responsible for damages and that means thousands of dollars in reparation or worse, legal battles. Some examples include if a client trips over a light and injures their arm, or the photographer backs up too far a knocks over a vase. That's where the liability insurance comes in.
