Susquehanna's Unit 1 Returned to Service
BERWICK, Pa., June 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Unit 1 at Talen Energy's Susquehanna nuclear plant in Luzerne County, Pa., resumed generating safe, carbon-free electricity for the regional power grid on Saturday, June 10 after repairing an electrical component failure that occurred on Thursday, June 8, which caused an automatic shutdown of the unit.
"Our electrical engineers and craftsmen completed a comprehensive assessment and made necessary repairs to circuitry that failed during the testing of the unit's hydraulic control system," said Brad Berryman, Site Vice President. "This occurred in a non-nuclear area of the plant and did not present a risk to the public or station personal."
Unit 2 at the plant remained in safe continuous operation at full rated power.
The Susquehanna plant, located about seven miles north of Berwick, is jointly owned by Susquehanna Nuclear, LLC, and Allegheny Electric Cooperative Inc., and is operated by Susquehanna Nuclear. For information, visit www.susquehannanuclear.com.
