Structured Family Caregiving Program in Georgia Now Accepting Applications

The Structured Family Caregiving program is now open to applicants through Home Nurse Inc.

Since implementing the Structured Family Caregiving (SFC) program in 2019, the state of Georgia has seen more primary caregivers now being able to stay at home to care for a loved one. As such, the waiver was renewed in 2022, with plans to continue providing SFC services into the future. Home Nurs Inc has been a trusted agency partner since 2019 and it is now reaching out to those primary caregivers who have yet to apply for the SFC.

A Medicaid-funded program, the SFC provides financial support and health coaching to unpaid primary caregivers. Home Nurse Inc is now accepting applications from those Georgia residents caring for an elderly and/or disabled loved one. “The primary caregiver cannot have employment outside the home or run a home business. Once approved, they become a contract employee of Home Nurse Inc, and weekly payments are deposited to their account,” explains Miranda Roberson, RN, President and CEO of Home Nurse Inc.

To be eligible for the SFC program, the applicant must also live with the person receiving the care and be related to them either biologically or through marriage; spouses and legal guardians, however, are not eligible. Lastly, the person in the applicant’s care must be Georgia Medicaid-eligible and a participant under the CCSP or SOURCE waiver program.

“Those who meet these requirements should also be able to supply a list of services they provide on a daily basis,” says Miranda. These include housekeeping, bathing, meal preparation, dressing, personal hygiene assistance, and medication management.

Aside from the weekly payments, the primary caregiver will also receive health coaching and guidance from Home Nurse Inc’s experienced senior care staff.
