Special Olympics World Games Media Hotel Reservations Due June 9
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- A surge in applications for media credentials for the 2015 Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles means that media looking for hotel accommodations should make their reservations by Tuesday, June 9.
“The record for media attendance at the World Games is being shattered daily,” said Steve Vanderpool, Senior Vice President for Communications and Media Operations of the LA2015 Games Organizing Committee. “Including our ESPN broadcast partner, more than 1,000 applications have been received, from 66 countries, by the June 1 open-application deadline.
“Now the question is where will these folks stay. We have good hotel options for media coming to the World Games, but they need to act quickly.”
The Organizing Committee has reserved rooms at discounted rates at 34 quality hotels in the Los Angeles area for the World Games, but the booking deadline is Tuesday, June 9, 2015. After that, unbooked rooms will be returned to these hotels for normal sale, at higher rates.
The preferred media hotel is the elegant L.A. Hotel Downtown, located at 333 S. Figueroa Street in downtown Los Angeles. A discounted rate of U.S. $195 a night (not including applicable taxes) is available to credentialed members of the media until June 9. The hotel provides free, in-room Wi-Fi connectivity to all guests, and the LA2015 transportation system will pick-up and deliver guests to all venues directly from the front door.
The L.A. Downtown Hotel is located 1.3 miles (2 km) from the Media Operations Office and Workroom at the Los Angeles Convention Center, three miles (5 km) from the venues at the University of Southern California (USC), 14 miles (23 km) from the venues at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and is 25 miles (40 km) to the venues in Long Beach.
Closer to the Media Operations Office and Workroom is the unique combination of the Courtyard Los Angeles L.A. LIVE and Residence Inn Los Angeles L.A. LIVE, both located in the same building at 901 West Olympic Boulevard, also available for media. A discounted rate of $209 per night for the Courtyard and $219 per night for the Residence Inn (not including applicable taxes) is available to credentialed media, also until June 9. Wi-Fi access at both is free for all guests. The LA2015 transportation system will also service this hotel.
The Figueroa Hotel is 350 yards (320 m) from the Convention Center, 2.7 miles (4 km) from USC, 15 miles (24 km) from UCLA and 30 miles (48 km) to the venues in Long Beach.
These hotels and others reserved by LA2015 are available for immediate booking at www.LA2015.org/housing.
“There will be a lot to cover at the World Games, so we are asking media to make their reservations now and benefit from the support services we have for them,” said Vanderpool.
Media credential applications continue to be accepted for review, but will be approved on a space-available basis only.
