LAS VEGAS, March 10, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- SolarCity® (NASDAQ: SCTY), America's #1 solar power provider, has opened its second Las Vegas-area operations center in North Las Vegas. Mayor John J. Lee of North Las Vegas joined local officials and SolarCity staff this morning to celebrate the new facility and the jobs it has brought to the area. This latest expansion pushes SolarCity's total Nevada staffing to more than 1,100 people. In February, a report from The Solar Foundation found that Nevada ranked 1st in the country in the number of solar jobs per capita. "We're excited to have SolarCity here in North Las Vegas," said Mayor John J. Lee. "SolarCity is helping to make Southern Nevada the epicenter of solar energy resources for the entire region and we welcome this industry leader to our city." SolarCity makes it possible for many Las Vegas area homeowners to install solar panels with no upfront cost and pay less for solar electricity than they pay for electricity from the local utility. Since launching sales less than a year ago, thousands of Las Vegas-area residents have signed up with SolarCity. The North Las Vegas operations center currently has more than 75 staff and continues to hire.
