Through a combination of innovative digital tools and one-on-one counseling, SALT uses the process of paying and borrowing for college as a teachable moment to instill sound financial principles for a lifetime of consumer decisions – all free of charge to students and alumni. Since its launch in 2011, the program has helped many thousands of student loan borrowers prevent or resolve loan delinquency and reduce default, while helping borrowers in trouble get back on track and successfully manage their education debt. Borrowers who engage with SALT are three times more likely to resolve their delinquency and spend 22 percent less time in delinquency than those who don’t engage. SALT maintains a 98 percent customer satisfaction rate for its live counseling. Eight out of 10 SALT members report that they are likely to recommend SALT’s My Money 101 courses to their peers.

SALT is backed by American Student Assistance, a 59-year-old private nonprofit dedicated to reigniting the middle class and the American Dream with a college-educated workforce of consumers capable of attaining lifelong financial stability.
