Respected CPA Joins The Pun Group as Partner

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif., Oct. 31, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Vanessa Burke, CPA recognized for her expertise in California municipal finance circles, has joined The Pun Group, LLP as a Partner. She will manage the CPA firm's regional offices in Northern California and Arizona, leading its growing financial management advisory practice.

With more than 27 years of combined experience in auditing and finance, Ms. Burke has worked with a broad spectrum of clients, including government, not-for-profit, healthcare, technology, insurance, manufacturing and distribution, as well as privately held businesses. Her accounting career was largely spent as an auditor with the national firms of Grant Thornton LLP, Moss Adams LLP, and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, as well as CFO and controller executive leadership posts. 

Her specializations include advising clients in areas of internal control, municipal debt, financial restructuring and turnarounds, leverage buyouts, and mergers & acquisitions.   Ms. Burke is widely recognized for her achievements during the City of Stockton's highly visible bankruptcy where, in 2012 she was appointed as the Chief Financial Officer to oversee the Finance and Administrative Services Department. 

With vast experience in government budgeting, auditing and accounting, she helped guide the City through its Chapter 9 filing and provided public testimony on trial during the case.  She would later put that know-how to work as a senior advisor for a California financial advisory firm, aiding the City of San Bernardino and other municipalities through fiscal challenges.

As a licensed Certified Public Accountant in California, Ms. Burke is one of 650 individuals in the United States accredited as a Certified Public Finance Officer by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). She is a sought-after speaker and an active member of several professional CPA organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CalCPA).

Ms. Burke graduated from California State University, Sacramento and holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Administration and Accounting.
