Record-Setting Hong Kong Optical Fair Coming Next Month
HONG KONG, Oct 22, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - The HKTDC Hong Kong Optical Fair returns this year for its 23rd edition from 4 to 6 November at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and co-organised by the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association (HKOMA), the fair will showcase innovative and popular eyewear and related products from around the world.During today's press conference, Deputy Executive Director of the HKTDC, Benjamin Chau, said: "In the first eight months of 2015, Hong Kong's exports of spectacles, lenses and frames reached almost HK$10 billion. The United States is the top export market, followed by the Chinese mainland, Italy and France. This diversification of export markets allows manufacturers to balance their risks, which helps to make Hong Kong one of the most important cities for spectacles promotion and sourcing. By participating in the Optical Fair, industry players can expand their businesses by attracting the attention of buyers around the world."Eyewear from around the worldA record 740 exhibitors from 24 countries and regions will gather in Hong Kong, with exhibitors coming from places as diverse as India, Japan, Switzerland and the US. Meanwhile, first time exhibitors from Macau and the Philippines will bring new dimensions to the event. The largest group pavilion at the fair is from the Chinese mainland, while France, Italy, Japan, Korea and Taiwan have also organised large pavilions of exhibitors. Group pavilions from the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association and Visionaries of Style are also present at the fair. Exclusive brands on display Relocated to the fair's most prominent area in the Grand Hall, the popular Brand Name Gallery will showcase a record 220 brands from 22 countries and regions. Some of the top brands featured include A Bathing Ape, ic! berlin, Italia Independent, Jaeger, Kenzo, L.G.R, MANGO, Markus-t, Seesun, SLASTIK and SUPERDRY. Models will showcase these brands in eyewear parades throughout the fair period.Innovative eyewear built from 3D printing will also be displayed at the fair. Taking a cue from a wide range of other industries, businesses have begun employing this new technology in eyewear manufacturing. German brand's ic! berlin will showcase this with Plotic, a kind of 3D printed eyewear created by selective laser sintering that abandons traditional manufacturing techniques. Morgenrot, another German brand, will also feature glasses taking advantage of 3D printing. By using the technology to create spectacle frames with clip-on parts, they are able to create diverse looks for a single pair of sunglasses.Other special zones will lead buyers to find the newest trends in every aspect of eyewear and optical equipment. Contact Lens & Accessories, Eyewear Accessories, Kids Eyewear & Smart Eyewear, Reading Glasses, and Sport & Professional Eyewear zones are just some of the sector-specific areas that will feature the top products in their respective categories.The future of smart eyewear Technology will be a major feature of the Optical Fair, with the Hong Kong Optical Lens Company Ltd showcasing a variety of smart eyewear to visitors. Among these products will be Google Glass, eyewear that allows its user a hands-free smartphone experience via an Android and iOS-based heads-up display that is compatible with thousands of existing apps. Other smart eyewear from Epson, Vuzix and Recon Jet will be on hand for fairgoers to experience how technology can enhance optical devices used for everything from business to sport. Building the optical industryEvents throughout the fair will bring the latest developments in the optical industry into focus. Jointly organised by the HKTDC, The Hong Kong Optometric Association and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the 13th Hong Kong Optometric Conference will take place on 5 and 6 November, bringing together six leading industry experts from Australia, Hong Kong, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the US to discuss advancements in optometry. Various business seminars will cover topics including "The Latest Industry, Retail and Consumer Trends in Eyewear", "Opportunities in the South American Optical Market" and "How Technologies Drive Business: 3D Printing and Smart Glasses," giving attendees the chance to enhance their knowledge of various markets.New products will also be on show throughout the fair. Three Brand Name Gallery Eyewear parades will take place on 4 November, the fair's opening day. On 5 November, a product launch by Yingtan Cluster will see new products make their debut. Local talent will also be highlighted, with the finalists' designs from the 17th Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition on display throughout the fair.Winning products at press conferenceWinners of the 17th Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition were unveiled at the press conference. Under the theme "Cosmopolitan Glamour", contestants from the Open Group and Student Group were challenged to integrate refined craftsmanship with elegant design. Lai Pui-yan's design BEATS was crowned Champion of the Open Group with a design inspired by the city of Hong Kong. The Champion of the Student Group meanwhile was Lau Man-yam's "Day and Night", portraying different facets of the city throughout a day.
