Production of Indonesian Large-scale Manufacturing Industries Up 5.44 Percent
JAKARTA, Aug 4, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - Indonesia's large-scale manufacturing industries recorded a production growth of 5.44 percent in the second quarter this year, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS)."The growth is mainly contributed by an increase in the production of metal goods, non-machinery, and equipment industries by 16.43 percent," BPS's Chief, Suryamin, noted during a press conference here on Monday.He pointed out that the growth was also driven by a 13.13 percent increase in production in the pharmaceutical industry comprising chemical and traditional medicines, and an increase of 9.43 percent in the repair, machinery, and equipment installation services.Industries that suffered a decline in production included the garment industry, by 12.77 percent; transportation industry, by 6.52 percent; and paper and paper products industries, by 5.63 percent, he explained."The production in large- and medium-scale manufacturing industries in the second quarter of 2015 grew by 2.34 percent compared to that of the first quarter of 2015," he said.The highest growth was recorded in the food industry, which was up by 9.84 percent; rubber, rubber goods, and plastic industries, by 8.61 percent; and machinery and equipment industries, by 8.60 percent.Garment industries were down by 5.62 percent while chemicals and chemical goods industries registered a decline of 4.28 percent, and transportation equipment industries recorded a drop of 3.04 percent.In terms of provinces, the industries in North Maluku province recorded the highest production growth in the period reaching 29.41 percent; followed by Aceh, at 4.98 percent; and South Sumatra, 13.73 percent.Industrial production in West Sumatra was down by 6.06 percent while production in West Sulawesi fell by 6.06 percent and Bangka-Belitung by 0.45 percent.In terms of industrial production in the provinces, North Maluku grew by 12.03 percent while Riau Islands recorded a growth of 11.42 percent, and Riau province noted an increase of 11.12 percent compared to the first quarter of 2015.Provinces that recorded a decline in industrial production were South Sulawesi, by 0.84 percent; Gorontalo, by 0.08 percent; and Maluku, by 0.59 percent. --Antara.Copyright 2015 ACN Newswire .
