Currently, Dr. Barer chairs the boards of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, Centrexion, and the HMH Center for Discovery and Innovation. His entrepreneurial spirit extends to his involvement with MIG, an organization that supports Israeli biotech ventures, and his role as a Venture Advisor to the Israel Biotechnology Fund. He is deeply committed to advancing education and policy, having led the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey's Governor's Advisory Committee and serving on various boards, including Rutgers University and BioNJ.

Dr. Barer's remarkable contributions have earned him widespread recognition, including being named to Scientific American's "Worldview 100," and honored with multiple awards such as the 'Outstanding Global Director' by the Financial Times and the "Lifetime Achievement Award" from the International Myeloma Foundation. He is also celebrated for his philanthropic efforts, receiving accolades for his community service from organizations such as Rambam Healthcare Center in Israel and Overlook Hospital.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Barer holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Rutgers University and has received an honorary LL.D. from the Rabbinical College of America. He and his wife, Meri, have been married for 56 years and are proud parents of four children and fifteen grandchildren.
