PA Department of Aging to Attend White House Conference on Aging
Secretary of Aging Teresa Osborne Representing PA in Forum Discussing Aging Policy
HARRISBURG, Pa., July 13, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- When President Barack Obama delivers the keynote address today at a once-in-a-decade national aging conference, Pennsylvania will be represented by Secretary of Aging Teresa Osborne. The event will include a select group of 200 experts, advocates and leaders in the growing field of aging services.
"The insights shared at this conference will benefit all older Pennsylvanians – particularly as we work to rebalance our long-term care system and provide more choices for seniors to remain in their homes," said Governor Tom Wolf. "I am pleased that Secretary Osborne will be in attendance to represent Pennsylvania for this very important discussion."
The White House Conference on Aging is held every 10 years to help chart the course of aging policy in America. The 2015 Conference focuses on four areas: ensuring retirement security; promoting healthy aging; providing long-term services and supports; and protecting older Americans from financial exploitation, abuse, and neglect. For more information on the Conference, go online to whitehouseconferenceonaging.gov.
"The nation is rapidly aging and Pennsylvania is among the states leading the way," said Secretary Osborne. "Adopting sound policies and putting in place systems that support and protect our most vulnerable seniors demands our attention. I commend the White House for continuing the tradition of hosting this conference, and I am honored to participate."
The Pennsylvania Department of Aging was established by the General Assembly in June 1978 to advance the well-being of Pennsylvania's older citizens, to affect coordination in the administration of federal and state aging programs, and to promote the creation and growth of organizations designed to maximize independence and involvement of older Pennsylvanians.
