Online Bike Retailer Price Point Announces Limited Time Free Shipping Test
Rancho Dominguez, CA (PRWEB) January 28, 2016
Price Point, one of the Nation's leading online bike retailers, has announced a temporary change to standard shipping rates. In an effort to test the viability of a "free shipping" model, Price Point will send all domestic orders free of charge. Price Point has conducted customer survey and focus groups over the last year and found that there is a desire from consumers for free shipping. This test will mark the first of a series of similar tests to take place over the coming months.
Surveys and focus groups have shown that consumers prefer consistent low prices with affordable shipping rather than sales and coupons. The free shipping model comes in many different varieties and depends on high sales volume to make up for the loss in revenue. Many models require a minimum purchase to qualify for free shipping; in this test Price Point will ship at no cost with no minimum. There is a common misconception by the online shoppers that retailers make money on shipping charges. Generally most eCommerce stores actually just break even or lose money on shipping charges.
Some retailers actually raise prices in order to make up for the cost of free shipping and pass it on to the consumer indirectly. When asked if Price Point will engage in this practice during the test, Director of Marketing Rebecca Pisicoli replied "Price Point always offers some of the lowest prices in the industry; it will be no different during this test. This is the time to pick up that bike, frame or component and get it shipped for free." This offer applies to standard domestic shipments via USPS or Fedex Ground Home and over size charges will apply. No minimum purchase is required. The test will begin January 28th.
