National Nonprofit Celebrates $200 Million Raised for Local Food Charities

 Souper Bowl of Caring hosts New Orleans event to help local families in need

NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 4, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- It has been 35 years since the first time the simple yet significant question "What if everyone watching the Big Game gave just one dollar or one food item to a local food charity?" was asked. The beloved movement, Souper Bowl of Caring, was started with a request – help us be mindful of those without a bowl of soup to eat. Since then, thousands of groups like churches, schools, businesses, and television stations in all fifty states engage annually to support a neighborhood food charity with 100% of each collection staying local.

Most people don't know where their local food charity is, and almost all charities are small and often run out of a church or school, not big food banks with huge marketing budgets. That is why the organization that runs the annual Souper Bowl of Caring, Tackle Hunger, created the Tackle Hunger Map, where one can see and support any local feeding program. Right now, when a donation is made through the Map in certain regions of the country, it is designated to help the charity purchase nutritious dairy foods like milk, cheese and yogurt.

Demonstrating the importance of local community involvement in supporting food charities, Tackle Hunger is hosting a special Souper Bowl of Caring event in this year's Super Bowl city, New Orleans, on February 5^th, benefiting families in need through our partners at local charity, Culture Aid NOLA, and with the help of other great sponsors.

"Every family deserves to have critical needs met all year round. They deserve to have healthy food to eat, toys for their children and clothes. Food charities want to provide them all, and our programs are here to assist," says Alison Reese, Tackle Hunger's Executive Director. 

Coming together with a singular focus on community are other resource providers Toys for Tots, LA Foods, Diversified Foods, Dairy MAX, and Snapo Toys.
