Milton Hershey School Science Curriculum Supervisor Receives Presidential Award
HERSHEY, Pa. (PRWEB) August 25, 2016
Milton Hershey School® science curriculum supervisor Dr. Jaunine Fouché has been named one of the recipients of the 2016 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) by President Obama.
"We are proud of Dr. Fouché and her work which inspired her selection as a Presidential Award recipient," said MHS President Pete Gurt '85. "She has remained focused and dedicated in her efforts to develop exceptional science instruction that meets the individual needs of our students and prepares them for postsecondary success. Dr. Fouché demonstrates a clear commitment to excellence in her field and at our school."
The award recognizes kindergarten through 12th grade teachers from across the country who develop and implement a high-quality instructional program that is informed by content knowledge and enhances student learning. It is the highest honor a mathematics or science teacher may receive for exemplary teaching in the United States.
Dr. Fouché is one of only 213 award recipients who received the award this year after being selected by a panel of distinguished scientists, mathematicians and educators. Recipients represent educators from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Department of Defense Education Activity schools and the U.S. territories.
Awardees serve as models for their colleagues, inspiration to their communities and leaders in the improvement of mathematics and science education.
"My success as an educator is a testament to the mission of Milton Hershey School, our amazing students, and the opportunities afforded to me in the service of children from families of lower income," said Dr. Fouché. "I believe in empowering students and providing a top-notch education that, when paired with STEAM and innovation opportunities, harnesses their restless curiosity to solve local and global challenges. Through this award, I hope to further the growing innovation dialog and inspire our students."
As a Presidential Award recipient, Dr. Fouché will attend a series of recognition events and professional development opportunities in Washington, D.C. on Sept.8.
The National Science Foundation administers PAEMST on behalf of The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. The program was established by Congress in 1983. Since that time, more than 4,500 teachers have been recognized for their contributions in the classroom and to their profession.
