Masseto Unveils the 2022 Vintage

The new vintage marries summer's ripe energy with autumn's refined tension—vibrant, linear, pure.

BOLGHERI, Italy, Sept. 30, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Masseto, first released in 1986, announces the launch of its 2022 vintage, continuing the estate's tradition of presenting the new vintage as summer turns to fall. Crafted on the Tuscan coast overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, the 2022 vintage is now introduced.

The 2022 growing season unfolded under a quintessential winter, with cool temperatures aligned with the expected cadence of the first quarter. This was succeeded by a spring of notable restraint, both cool and dry, bestowing a measured awakening on the vines. Towards the end of May, the sun asserted itself, with temperatures peaking at 95°F/35°C and a stretch of several days without rain. Summer showers broke the dryness, bringing much-needed respite to the terroir. As September arrived, nocturnal coolness provided textbook conditions for the nuanced maturation of sugars, aromas and tannins, each element weaving complexity into the fruit.

The harvest commenced under propitious skies, allowing the technical team to time each vineyard parcel with precision. On the 6th of September, the first Merlot clusters were picked by hand. The harvest journey reached its conclusion on the 9th of October.

Grapes harvested from individual vineyard parcels undergo separate fermentations, each conveying their unique character before being united in a blend that reflects the terroir of the estate. The wine starts its 24 - month journey in barriques at controlled temperature. Thereafter, it rests a further 12 months in the bottle, achieving a poised equilibrium, an assured harmony of depth and elegance that has long denoted the wine's distinguished style.

Forged beneath the radiant clarity of Mediterranean light, caressed by sea breezes and rooted in Pliocene-era blue clay once cradled by an ancient seabed, Masseto 2022 emerges with resolute grace.

Distribution of the 2022 vintage will begin in Italy and internationally in October 2025.
