Leadership Transition at the National Science and Technology Medals Foundation (NSTMF)

The National Science and Technology Medals Foundation (NSTMF) is pleased to announce exciting leadership transitions as it enters a new chapter in 2025.

WASHINGTON, Dec. 6, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Effective January 1, 2025, Andy Rathmann-Noonan, who has served as President with remarkable dedication, will transition into a new role on the NSTMF Board of Directors. Under Rathmann-Noonan's visionary leadership, the Foundation has experienced tremendous growth, including expanding key programs such as inSTEM, which fosters inclusion and opportunity for the next generation of STEM leaders. The NSTMF is grateful for Rathmann-Noonan's continued involvement and looks forward to the insights and contributions he will bring to the board.

In addition, the NSTMF is thrilled to welcome Dr. Mayowa Awe as the new Executive Director. Dr. Awe has been a driving force within the organization, championing innovative approaches to empower emerging STEM talent. With her deep commitment to promoting STEM inclusion and her transformative ideas, Dr. Awe is poised to lead the Foundation into its next era of impactful work.

Also marking this new chapter, Vinton G. Cerf, Chair of the Board, will step down at the end of this year after years of exceptional service. Vint's leadership has been instrumental in guiding the NSTMF's mission to celebrate the achievements of National Medal of Science and National Medal of Technology Laureates. His dedication has helped establish the NSTMF as a vital organization uplifting the stories of those who shape the future through science and technology.

As Dr. Cerf steps down, OpenAI's Howard Ekundayo will assume the role of Chair of the Board. Ekundayo brings an impressive track record of leadership, energy, and a passion for the NSTMF's mission, and his expertise will be essential in building on the Foundation's legacy.

The NSTMF remains steadfast in its mission to provide best-in-class mentorship through its inSTEM program, fulfilling its commitment to fostering equity within the STEM community and empowering a diverse, thriving generation of STEM professionals.
