Developed by Sciton, HALO was the first hybrid fractional laser to combine an ablative and a non-ablative wavelength within the same treatment session, delivering both to the same microscopic treatment zone.
The platform pairs a 1470 nm non-ablative wavelength, tunable to reach 250 to 700 microns into the dermis to address sun damage and stimulate collagen, with a 2940 nm ablative erbium:YAG wavelength, tunable from 20 to 100 microns to refine surface texture and pore size. Each wavelength is adjusted independently, allowing a provider to calibrate the degree of correction and recovery time a given treatment plan requires.
The addition expands the locally owned practice's established resurfacing and energy-device menu, which includes Fraxel and BBL Heroic. Practitioners assess each individual during a comprehensive consultation to determine whether HALO's dual-wavelength approach, a single-wavelength option, or a broadband light treatment best fits their skin type and goals.
Clinical Precision and Customizable Depth
The HALO system allows medical providers to address sun damage, uneven texture, enlarged pores, and early collagen decline within a single session, tuning the ablative and non-ablative components separately rather than applying a fixed setting to every patient.
"HALO gives us a level of control we haven't had with a single-wavelength resurfacing laser," said Lisa Leung, RN, MS, NP, of Laser Center of Marin. "Being able to dial in the dermal and epidermal components independently means we're not asking a patient with sensitive skin to accept the same downtime as someone who wants more aggressive correction. The treatment plan can actually match the person."
"What stands out clinically is that HALO delivers both wavelengths to the same treatment zone in one pass," Leung added. "For patients dealing with sun damage and rough texture together, rather than one or the other, that combined approach is a meaningful upgrade over treating each concern separately."
